FTC fines over $1 million since October 10, 2003 on Do Not Call List violations

The U.S. Government has passed a law with a fine of up to $11,000 if you call someone who is on their www.DoNotCall.Gov list, in an effort to cut down on the number of telemarketer calls.  AT&T long distance and New York Post  telemarketers were among the first to be charged.  See Call Not News Don't unknowingly call someone on the list, and get fined!  This system will help you mark your databases with a No Call flag, or remove their record.  We call this process Do Not Call Cleaning or Do Not Call Scrubbing. How would you make use of these DNC lists?  If you printed the million numbers out, 1000 numbers per page,  it would create a stack of paper over 51 feet high!  At one number per second, it would take 3.4 years, all day long, just to read all the numbers.  How can the Government possibly expect you to match these millions of numbers with your existing phone databases? • Delete the entire record from the database file, including name and address

On this last point, other similar programs do not check or correct Area Codes.  This is essential.  If a phone number in the database only contains the last 7 digits, for example 829-4444 in Washington DC, it would miss 202-829-4444, and you could get fined!
