Introduction to Cryptology

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to ways to apply Cryptology to your day to day microcomputer work.

This course is divided into six main sections: introduction to cryptology, general functions, programming design, encryption, decryption, and transposition. The terminology and concepts provide a base for cryptology "literacy". The class exercises provide "hands-on" experience.

The course is designed for the first-time Access user. More than 70% of the class time is hands-on use of Access.

Objectives

• Become familiar with the terminology and major functions of cryptology
• Edit existing, and add new, encrypted message
• Design and create a messaging system system using computer programs
• Search the text for patterns, for decryption
• View the message with characters transposed into different orders
• Decrypt messages using codebreaking tools
