American Premiere! One of Donizetti's finest works with an incredible outpouring of inspired melodies, Poliuto is a tragic story of romance, pagan pageantry and Christian martyrdom in ancient Rome. Revived for Maria Callas and Franco Corelli at La Scala during the 1960s, Poliuto was said to be one of the legendary diva's favorite operas as there is only one woman in the whole show. With its large triumphal scene, Poliuto is sometimes placed at the headwaters of Italian Grand Opera, foreshadowing Verdi in Aida and other later works.

By special arrangement with Casa Ricordi in Milan and Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, we proudly present the American premiere of Poliuto in the new critical edition by William Ashbrook and Roger Parker.

Cast: Lucio Paz, tenor as Poliuto; Marje Palmieri, soprano as Paolina; Jason Stearns, baritone as Severo; Yuri Dobrovolsky, bass as Callistene; Michael Costik, tenor as Nearco; John Schultz, tenor as Felice, Christopher Carrico, tenor as Un Cristiano.

With the chorus and orchestra of the Opera Camerata, conducted by Micaele Sparacino.
