Windows 95/98

I would like to install the Arial Greek font which was supposed to have been included on the Windows 95 CD. I have searched can not find the font on the CD. I need it to create a document in Office 97.

This is actually a design feature of Word 97. Word 97 makes available only the fonts usable by the language and keyboard setting in Microsoft Windows 95. To install multilanguage support in Windows 95, follow these steps:
1. In Control Panel, double- click Add/Remove Programs.
2. Click the Windows Setup tab.
3. Click the Multilanguage Support check box to select it.
4. Click OK.
To enable support for a specific language after following the above steps, follow these steps:
1. In Control Panel double-click Keyboard.
2. On the Language tab, click Add.
3. Click the language you want to use, and then click OK.
4. Click OK.
Under Windows NT:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Keyboard.
2. On the Language tab, click Add
3. Click the language you want to use, and then click OK.
4. Click OK

When I choose the "Shut Down" function to exit Windows 95 workstation, I receive the following message: There are user(s) connected to your computer. Shutting down your computer will disconnect them. Do you want to continue?" Why am I getting this message?

A client connected to a Windows 95 server needs to maintain the connection for a reasonable amount of time, allowing for user interaction. If the Windows 95 machine is shutdown during this time, the error message you received is generated. This happens even though there are no drives mapped directly to the Windows 95 server.

I am trying to install Windows 95 to an IBM Thinkpad 755 CDV, and just before I put in the second disk my system locks up and I have to cold boot to try to start again. What is the problem?

This is a Mouse driver conflict. Install the DOS mouse driver in memory prior to installation of Windows or boot into Easy Setup and disable the TrackPoint feature on the Thinkpad.

How can I increase my pagefile in Windows 95?

First of all you have to log on locally to the Administrator account. Once logged on as the Administrator go to the "START" button on your toolbar, then select "Settings", then click on "Control Panel", then double-click on the "System" icon. Select the "Performance" tab, then select "Virtual Memory" button. Choose "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings". Then go to "Minimum Size" and "Maximum Size" to change the size that you want 95 to reserve for the pagefile size. When done click on OK. Then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I cannot see certain files and file extensions in Windows Explorer that I know should be there. How can I set up Windows 95 to display these files?

First, double-click on My Computer ,usually located in the top left hand corner of the desktop. Select the "View" pull down menu and go down to "Options". After bringing up "Options" click on the "View" tab. Make sure that the "show all files" radio-button is selected, this is indicated by a solid black circle. Uncheck the "hide extensions for known file types", if this is checked. It is also a good idea that the "display the full path in the title bar" is checked, just so you can see where the file is located.

Can I create icons on the desktop without a title in Windows 95? My icon is descriptive enough to explain its use. Naming the icon is only redundant.

After placing or creating the icon on your desktop, right click the icon and choose rename. The previous name of the icon will be highlighted. While holding down the Alt key enter the number 0160. Press Enter to accept the new name. This is a special blank character that Windows will except.

My operating system is Windows 95 and everytime I place an audio CD or CDROM in my drive it automatically plays. Is there a way that I can temporarily disable the AutoPlay feature?

I want to put the CD in the drive and play it later now. To turn off this function on a per-instance basis. Place the CD in your CDROM drive, close the door, and hold down the Shift key for a few seconds (for about as long as it normally takes for AutoPlay to begin. The CDROM should not play. You will have to use the Run command later to play it.

What is the difference between using Regedit32 and Regedit within Windows 9.x or NT operating systems?

When you use Regedit32, you can only search for a key and can only search one hive at a time. RegEdit allows you to search all hives at once for any value you need, whether you're searching for a key or for data
