How can I scan my network drives in Norton Anti-Virus?

First, go into Norton Anti-Virus then under “TOOLS” choose “OPTIONS”. Go to the “SCANNER” tab, click on “ADVANCED”. Under “ADVANCED SETTINGS”, check “SHOW NETWORK DRIVES”. Then click on “OK”. Under the “DRIVES” list, individually check the drives that you wish to scan or if you want to scan every network drive, under “DRIVE TYPES” check “ALL NETWORK DRIVES”.

How do I setup Norton Anti-Virus to automatically repair files that contain viruses?

Go into Norton anti-virus then under “TOOLS” choose “OPTIONS”. Go to the “SCANNER” tab, under “HOW TO RESPOND” “WHEN A VIRUS IS FOUND”, choose “REPAIR AUTOMATICALLY”. Also go to the auto-protect tab and under “HOW TO RESPOND” “WHEN A VIRUS IS FOUND”, again choose to “REPAIR AUTOMATICALLY”.

I am installing Norton AntiVirus (NAV) for Windows NT, Version 4.0 and towards the end of the installation I receive the following error: “Unable to load Symevent”. Other users that I have spoken to have received “Unable to start Symevent”. Also Auto-Protect fails to load as well. What can be done to correct this?

Follow these steps to resolve this issue:

1. Download SEVINST.EXE from the following location: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/symevnt/sevinst.exe
2. Click Start and choose Run.
3. Browse to the \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.
4. Drag Sevinst.exe to the Run text box. The file name will appear.
5. Place the cursor at the end of all text on that line (outside the quote marks), type a space, then type NAVNT and click OK. This will extract the files to where they belong.
6. Click OK in response to the message that Symevent was installed.
7. If Sevinst.exe does not correctly extract the files, go back to the Run line and change the format to 8.3.

In Norton Anti-Virus, how do I make a backup of a file that contains a virus before the file has been inoculated?

Go into Norton Anti-Virus, under "TOOLS" choose "OPTIONS". Go to the "GENERAL" tab and check "BACK UP FILE BEFORE ATTEMPTING A REPAIR". The default backup extension is .VIR, but this can be changed to the extension of your choice.

I am running windows 98 for an operating system and I have just received the Norton Anti-Virus compact disc that I ordered from Softmart. There are many sub-directories in the root folder and I don't know which directory contains the setup.exe that I need to run.

In the root directory there is a sub-directory called NAV9X. This is the directory that contains the setup.exe that you need to execute. This directory is also used for Windows 95, hence the 9X extension.
