“The federal list will certainly help people in states that don’t have a law like Indiana’s,” Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter added. “But we have a premier law giving citizens more privacy from those unsolicited telemarketing calls.”
The federal list exempts several groups including the telecommunication and financial industries. It also allows businesses that you have had contact with in the last 18-months to continue to contact you.
Indiana’s list has just four exemptions: real estate and insurance agents, charities that use their own employees or volunteers to make the calls, and newspapers that use employees to make the calls.
