Document Title:
Can I
Synchronize more than one
ACT! Database from a single computer?
Product(s):
ACT! 5.0 - PC; ACT! 6.0 - PC
Operating System(s):
Situation:
You have more than one ACT! Database
that you would like to
synchronize with another user through With
Other Users or Database to Database synchronization.
Solution:
The synchronization of more than one
ACT! Database from a single computer is not supported.
With other Users
synchronization in ACT! (for example, Shared Folder,
E-Mail, or Modem to Modem synchronization) cannot be
supported with multiple
databases residing on
a single computer. An ACT! Database can be configured to
receive synchronization packets from more than one
database (more than one user) but once a synchronization
packet has been applied to one database, that
synchronization packet is no longer available to other
databases. If you
choose to apply a received synchronization packet to a
database other than the original destination database,
the transaction log file (which tracks the information
received in a received synchronization) will no longer
be up to date for the original database.
Attempting to
synchronize more than one database from a
single workstation can cause loss of data, or corruption
of the database. It is recommended that you consolidate
multiple
databases into one
single database to be synchronized.
Please refer to the following Knowledge Base Documents
for suggestions on merging
multiple databases
into one single database.
Database to Database
synchronization stores the synchronization settings
within the database itself, so it is possible to
synchronize
multiple
databases through
Database to Database Synchronization. However, be aware
that Database to Database synchronization was designed
exclusively for only one Database to
synchronize to only one other database, on
the same computer, or over a Local Area Network (LAN).
Attempting to
synchronize multiple
databases to a central
database using Database to Database Synchronization, is
neither recommended nor supported. A loss of data may
occur. For more details on configuring Database to
Database Synchronization, refer to the following
